Smashbox Cover Shot ‘Bold’ Eye Palette on NC45 Dark Skin

I had no intention of buying any of these palettes when they were first released. I was on a strict-no buy (soon to be broken) and really didn’t need any more eyeshadow. I’m also not a particularly big Smashbox fangirl so I really didn’t think I was going to end up with anything. However, I was in Shopper’s, looking for small gifts to take back to my family in Trinidad when I decided that $35cad wasn’t a bad price to pay for a palette and that I had family that would probably get a lot of use out of it.

Top two shades: Techno and Stormy. From left to right: Fling, Wait What?, Bolt, Sell Out, Poolside, and No Shame.

Once I got to T&T I doled out my gifts and realized I was wrong, no one needed this extremely bright Smashbox palette. I toted it back up to Canada with me, with all the good intentions of returning it, but as fate would have it I lost the damn receipt.

Thankfully, I don’t have an overstock of brightly coloured shadows. And I was certain that with St. Paddy’s around the corner it would get used at least once. I never thought I would fall in love the way I did.

After trying so many times to use and love ABH’s Modern Renaissance I finally remembered what it was like to use high-quality non-powdery eyeshadows, shadows that blend like a dream and don’t make your eyes look muddy regardless of what shadows you add into the mix.

Here are a couple looks I’ve played around with!

LOOK No. 1 – GREEN

Cover Shot Palette Bold on NC45 Dark Skin

Both iPhone quality pics, sorry!

I applied this around 9am on St. Paddy’s and it was still going strong when I took it off at 6:30pm. That’s 9.5 hours of wear, extremely impressed.

This purple look only lasted 5 hours before it needed a touch-up but I blame myself for not using a denser brush to apply the initial purple shade of ‘No Shame.’

  • Hourglass GIRL Lip Stylo in Achiever on the lips
  • Lancôme Teint Idole Ultra 24H Makeup in 460 Suede (W)

BONUS No.3 – ORANGE

iPhone Quality

So sorry about this quality, I know it’s not a great shot of the shadow but I thought I should include it anyways. For this look I was wearing ‘Wait, What?’ (the orange shade) with Becca’s Shimmering Skin Perfector Luminour Blush in ‘Blushed Copper’ on top.

OVERALL THOUGHTS

  • Wear time
    • Between 5-9.5 hours. The caveat being that you must use a dense brush and an eye primer.
  • Price
    • Competitive. I personally like the fact that it’s only 8 shades for $35cad as opposed to the 12-16 shades you get with other brands for double that price.
  • Packaging
    • I absolutely love that they’re so compact. If you were to get the neutral palette it’d be perfect to toss into your work or weekend bag.
  • Shades
    • I like that the Bold palette encompassed a wide range of rainbow shades. I think the shades work well both together and individually for a statement. I don’t think Techno and Stormy are particularly good transition shades and Stormy only looks really good on top of Poolside (blue) and No Shame (purple)
  • Formula
    • As mentioned above I only have good things to say about this formula. It’s pigmented, long-lasting, and blendable.

I highly recommend these and I will definitely be going to pick up Blaze in the future. (aka as soon as there’s a good deal on Optimum points). I am confident that Blaze will outshine ABH’s Modern Ren and all of my expectations.

Hope this was helpful!

xx
