This Yves Saint Laurent Lip Discovery set was available at a VIB Rouge Holiday event at my local store. I’ve rarely found YSL sets to be great value for darker skin or interesting enough to warrant purchasing one. So I was surprised that I was attracted to this year’s set – and it seems like a lot of other people were too, because it’s already sold out online. Maybe you’ll be able to find it in store, and here’s hoping it gets restocked.
It was $112 CAD for the set but would have cost $160 CAD to buy four YSL lip products individually.
These are the shades included:
- YSL Volupté Sheer Candy, #52 Rosy Coral – valued at $40 CAD
- YSL Rouge Volupté Shine Oil-in-Stick, #12 Corail Fauve – valued at $40
- YSL Vernis À Lèvres Glossy Stain, #4 Succulent Pomegranate – valued at $40 CAD
- YSL Rouge Pur Couture, #12 Corail Incandescent – valued at $40 CAD
And all of the lipsticks are full sized and are exclusive to this set.
Sheer Candy is very sheer pink. It’s fine but doesn’t last very long at 1.5hours. However, it is very easy to reapply and smells like gummy candy, which may be a plus for many.
This coral or “corail” Shine-in-Oil is one of the most comfortable products I’ve ever tried. I like it more than the Lancôme Juicy Shaker because it isn’t as ‘dry.’ I get a nice amount of colour from it and you can build up the pigmentation. It’s also extremely easy to reapply throughout the day. I get about 2 to 2.5 hours of wear from it.
The Glossy Stain is my favourite product in the set. It has a good amount of pigmentation and the shade is very WOC friendly. I also love the formula as it is so smooth and doesn’t have a glossy finish, instead it looks much more ‘vinyl-like’ in real life. As with other YSL lip products it doesn’t last very long at 3 hours, but once again I’ve found it easy to reapply.
This last one is typical of a highly pigmented YSL Pur Couture. And by that I mean I find it jarring on darker skin. I tend to mute shades like this out with either a lipliner or a tissue. It lasts longer than the other products at 3 hours max.
- None of these products transfer particularly a lot.
- The products are heavily scented, so if that bothers you you’ll be annoyed. But to me it’s just reminiscent of my mom’s makeup and I enjoy the luxury feel.
- They all have a great moisturizing formula that works well on lips that are prone to dryness.
WOULD I REPURCHASE?
If you want a lip set of exceptional value with amazing shades, this is not it.
If you like high-end lip products or are craving that beautiful heavy gold packaging you’ll probably really enjoy this.
All the shades are good for dark skin and I have already worn the Shine-in-Oil and Glossy Stain to death. If you’re looking for a nice gift for a loved one, or yourself and have $121 to spend I don’t think you or they will be disappointed. But if your looking for your one high-end purchase of the year, pick something else.
Hope this was useful!
